Ivo Iuliano
I was born in Duisburg (Germany) in 1970 and lived there until 1981, attended the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria (IPIALL) in Cremona from 1994 to 1998, where I obtained a diploma, under the supervision of Maestro Ernesto Vaia. Since 1999 I have been interested in the viola da gamba and also in the historical settings of instruments of the violin family. The last years I have been working mostly on instruments in modern setting, using my knowledge from my earlier experience working on ancient instruments. I work in Rovereto, Trento (Italy).

What Musicians Say
Trusted by professional musicians worldwide
“I spent a long time looking for a violin capable of producing exactly the kind of sound I imagine when I play. Luckily, this summer I came across an instrument made by Ivo Iuliano in 2024. It is a deep-, healthy-sounding and richly nuanced violin that performs excellently and with great balance across all registers. I keep discovering new qualities in the instrument, and I feel it offers endless possibilities in terms of color and expression. It has become my trusted instrument, one that carries beautifully in any concert hall.”

Iidamari Ahonen
Violinist
“Besides my 2015 Ivo Iuliano violin, all the instruments build by Maestro Iuliano I’ve had the pleasure to play and hear, combine all the advantages of an excellent modern instrument - easy to play, healthy strong sound, carrying extremely well in a big hall - with the mysterious and profound sounds found normally only in great old instruments by Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati etc. I have by far not reached the limits of expression with this violin. On the contrary I keep getting surprised by new hidden qualities, that were just waiting to be discovered. What a great pleasure to be on this kind of endless journey with such a wonderful instrument!”

Mark Gothoni
Professor für Violine, Universität der Künste Berlin, Mozart Piano Quartet
“Les violons de maître Ivo Iuliano: Tout simplement fantastique!”

Sachiko Segawa
Violinist
“My violin, built in 2015 by Ivo Iuliano has opened many doors for me. I don't think all of it would have been possible without it. Having never been so enthusiastic about a modern violin, my opinion is being shared by so many colleagues and audiences.”

Kaori Furusawa
Violinist
“Die Instrumente von Ivo Iuliano packten mich ab der ersten Sekunde. Ein sehr inniges, beseeltes sowie kraftvolles Tembre aus einer großen Epoche, das einem aus dem Herzen spricht und in den Saal hinaus strömt!”

Hartmut Rohde
Professor für Viola, Universität der Künste Berlin, Mozart Piano Quartet
“Since playing my Iuliano violin (2017) I am finally feeling able to use a whole palate of expression, likewise as a soloist with big symphony orchestra and in chamber music ensembles or in duo with piano. It is an instrument for life!”

Mao Konishi
Violinist and violist
“This outstanding viola was crafted by Ivo Iuliano for me in 2019. It has a warm and projecting sound which is ideal for solo and chamber music and is a high quality instrument.”

Alex Todicescu
Violist
“La rencontre avec mon alto puis avec Ivo dans le Nord de l'Italie furent 2 moments forts dans ma carrière. L'impression de renouer enfin avec les immenses instruments italiens anciens fut renforcée en voyant la façon dont il travaille dans son atelier. Outre la beauté du son, sa puissance, sa rondeur et sa profondeur, le plus important pour moi reste le timbre, et de ce point de vue aussi mon alto a une âme. Merci Ivo.”

Cyrill Pasquier
Violist
“I am honestly grateful to be one of the musicians playing the instrument made by Ivo Iuliano. It is a beautiful work with unlimited sound diversity, very comfortable to play, always projecting sound clearly. It is great experience to perform in any kind of acoustics. Looking forward every new day working with it. Very happy....”

Maja Rome
Violist
“Great viola!”

Sune Ranmo
Violist
“I've been playing his viola da gamba for more than 10 years already. It has a remarkable projection and resonance. Direct and focused sound on top string, warm and rich sound on the lower strings. It is not so much sensitive as strong against the weather. (I was a bit worried about the Korean extreme weather.) The more I play, the more I love it!”

Jiyun Kang
Viola da gamba player
“Estoy muy contento con mi violonchelo barroco que Ivo construyó para mi hace algunos años. Su sonoridad es maravillosa.”

Felipe León Rojas
Cello and viola da gamba player
